Mary Deegan Shaughnessy

Bank Teller

Mary Deegan Shaughnessy, a longtime Rockaway resident, died December 15.

Shaughnessy was born in Brooklyn, New York. She moved to Rockaway 60 years ago from Glendale, New York and worked as a bank teller. She was an active member of the Century Club, Catholic Club, Golden Age and Sea Breezy Clubs.

Shaughnessy was preceded in death by her husbands, James Deegan Jr. and John A. Shaughnessy; and sister, Ann Keck.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Elbe (Thomas), Susan Brady (Dennis) and Mary Price (James); sister, Helen Scheriff (Breezy Point); grandchildren, James, Erin, Brian, Catherine, Patrick and Katelyn, and James Price; great-grandchildren, Fiona, James and Cody.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. A funeral mass took place at St. Thomas More Church, Rockaway Point. Interment followed at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Butterflies by the Sea at Peninsula Hospital Center.
