Marjorie Savarese, 78, a former summer Rockaway resident, died December 15.
Savarese was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 18, 1933. She vacationed in Rockaway as a child. Her sister, nieces and nephews all live in Rockaway. She was married at St. Francis de Sales Church in 1972. She belonged to the Sisters of Saint Joseph from 1952 to 1972 (“Sr. Paul Christie”), received a B.A. from St. Joseph’s College; M.A. from Fordham University and her Ph.D. at St. Louis University.
Savarese was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Monagle; father, Humbert Savarese; and mother, Marjorie Savarese.
She is survived by her sister, Anne K. Blum; sons, John K. (Bridget) Monagle, James F. (Kelly) Monagle and Michael P. Monagle; numerous nieces and nephews in Rockaway, Garden City, New York; and Thousand Oaks, California.
A memorial service will take place at St. Francis de Sales Church, Belle Harbor on Friday December 23 at 5:30 p.m. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Santa Rosa, California.
