Turner Urges End To Crossbay Toll

Congressman Bob Turner sent a letter to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo advocating for termination of the toll on the Crossbay Veterans Memorial Bridge.

“The Crossbay Veterans Memorial Bridge provides the only practical access to shopping and services for residents of Broad Channel and the Rockaways,” Congressman Turner said.

The toll, which for 12 years was free for residents of Broad Channel and the Rockaways who used E-Z pass, was reinstated for all in 2010 to close the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s (MTA) budget deficit of one billion dollars.

“I understand everyone is feeling the pinch during these tough economic times,” Turner continued.

“But, I do not believe that a fee placed on residents who are just trying to get from one end of their borough to another benefits anyone.”

Congressman Turner has asked representatives on both sides of the aisle to come forward and help close the gate on this unnecessary toll for good. He has recently contacted Joe Lhota, executive director of the MTA, to discuss the issue and received a commitment to look into the issue further.
