Pols Still Seeking FEMA Aid From Irene
U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer and New York State Assemblyman Phillip Goldfeder are urging the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to immediately send assessment officials to the Rockaway area in order to conduct an assessment of the damage incurred as a result of Tropical Storm Irene.
Three months ago, Irene struck New York and hit Rockaway particularly hard, battering the beaches along the Rockaway peninsula, buckling and stripping away sections of the boardwalk, and eroding sand.
The displaced sand and damaged boardwalk threaten to cause serious damage to homes, schools, and roads in this narrow peninsula community once strong winter winds and accompanying wave action set in.
