Local Arrested In Riverhead

Samuel Mitchell, 51, of Far Rockaway Samuel Mitchell, 51, of Far Rockaway New York State police have arrested and charged a Far Rockaway man for allegedly stealing a gas station attendant’s car last week in Riverhead, New York.

Samuel Mitchell, 51, and two others were arrested for Grand Larceny for allegedly stealing the vehicle out of a Riverhead gas station on December 1. The men were captured by police after a state trooper was stopped outside a Valero gas station on Flanders Road at approximately 11:50 p.m. According to a New York State police press release the man told the trooper that his car was stolen. The attendant said he was a worker at the gas station and his car, a Mitsubishi Galant, was stolen from the station. State police later saw the car turning out of a Citgo gas station on Route 25 in Riverhead and observed it stopping on Marcy Avenue.

Police arrested the three occupants of the vehicle, whom they identified as Shineta Robinson, 37, of Riverhead, the driver of the vehicle, and passengers William Belcher, 45, of Riverhead and Mitchell of Far Rockaway. Police said Mitchell was found to be in possession of a Garmin GPS which was taken from the vehicle.

All three people were charged with grand larceny fourth degree and Mitchell was also charged with criminal possession of stolen property, fifth degree, a Class A misdemeanor, according to police.
