Pepper Steppers Reign Supreme At Apollo


Stan’s Pepper Steppers won in the highest speed category for the eleventh year in a row. Stan’s Pepper Steppers won in the highest speed category for the eleventh year in a row. Stan’s Pepper Steppers, the world championship Double-Dutch team, earned first place in the highest speed category in both the singles and doubles competition at the 20th Annual David Walker Memorial Double-Dutch Classic held at the World Famous Apollo Theatre on December 4.

The team of Laa’Neisha Jones, Peter Alvarez, Katherine Rocha and Robeisha Davis dazzled the sold out crowd by performing an amazing 400 steps, counting just the left foot, in two minutes.

Mrs. Brown’s Jumpers, the Pepper Steppers’ sister team out of Sports Arts from P.S. 40 in Brooklyn, also competed. They took first, second and fourth place honors in the singles competition. They earned second and third place in the Doubles Division.

The coaches, officials and team members include: Stan Brown, Linda Brown, Yatte Brown, Carol Walker, Tanasia Walker, Rudy Callender, Peter Alvarez, Katherine Rocha and Robeisha Davis, Akeela Williams, Destiny Alvarez, Alaina Reynolds, Quianna Brown, Javon Langston and Latia Morris. The teams would also like to give special thanks to the Rockaway community and the staff of the Sorrentino Recreation Center for their support and contributions.
