Francesco “Ciccio” Adesso, a longtime Rockaway resident, died December 5.
Adesso was the proprietor of the famous Ciccio’s Pizzeria on Avenue U in Brooklyn, New York. Adesso immigrated from Caggiano, Salerno, Italy in 1960 where he originally started in construction then later worked in the clothing industry, where he saved up money to open a pizzeria. Adesso was awarded the “Businessman of the Year” from Assemblyman William Colton as an appreciation of his contributions to the neighborhood. He was the originator of the Sophia Loren Pizza and the Ciccio’s “Special.”
Adesso was preceded in death by his son, Robert Adesso and brother, Angelo.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (nee O’Rourke); son, Nicholas Adesso; stepdaughters, Suzanne Sypulski and Christine (Patrick) Diskin; grandchildren, Arianna Adesso, Robert Adesso, Molly Diskin, Cristain Adesso and Hailey Adesso; siblings, Rosario and Catherine Valisena.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Cusimano and Russo Funeral Home, Brooklyn, New York. A funeral mass will take place on Friday December 9, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church, Breezy Point. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, New York.
