Kudos To Local Merchants

Dear Editor,

’Tis the season when tourists from all over the world come to “ooh” and “aah” at the holiday windows on Fifth Aveue. But let’s take a moment to acknowledge the beautiful job being done by some of our own local merchants on Beach 116 Street who devote the same attention to beauty and detail as their Manhattan counterparts.

Who needs Macy’s or Saks Fifth Avenue when we have The Blue Bungalow and Little Dudes and Divas? Their everchanging window displays are sights to behold – colorful, tasteful and seasonappropriate. Let’s also note the recently opened Rockapup pet shop and the soon-to-come Cuisine By Claudette for adding a touch of class with new storefronts, new lighting and artfully coordinated awnings.

It’s encouraging to see the care and pride that goes into these businesses … and while they may not represent a complete “solution” or counterpoint to the blight of the nearby hotels and their unseemly residents, let’s hope it’s the beginning of a piece-by-piece upgrade to our main shopping street.
