Sand Mountains Pop Up In Rockaway Park

The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation confirmed this week that the huge piles of sand that have emerged on the beach near Beach 120 Street in Rockaway Park have been placed there for beach grading, which takes place every year. An extra amount of sand was transported to the beach this year to also help with erosion caused by Hurricane Irene. Photo by Howard Schwach.
