SJEH Makes A Thankful Donation To The Needy
On November 22, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital staff donated 75 boxes of Thanksgiving meals, complete with turkeys, to needy patients. Hospital departments donated the meals, which included non-perishable trimmings, packed them in baskets and boxes, and decorated them. The Thanksgiving boxes and baskets with turkeys were delivered to patients’ homes by Hospital staff. Turkeys were donated by Morrison Management Specialists. Families who received the Thanksgiving baskets were very grateful and some shed tears of joy.
The Right Reverend Lawrence C. Provenzano, Bishop of Long Island and President of the Board of Managers of Episcopal Health Services, thanked the staff for their generosity, writing, “Thank you all for your loving gesture and care for our neighbors in need. I am very grateful to you all.”
St. John’s Chief Executive Officer, Nelson Toebbe, wrote, “I am so proud of each and everyone who participated in this Thanksgiving outreach to the community. You have helped brighten the lives of many people.”
The Hospital-wide effort was organized by the Human Resources Department and many departments made generous donations. The decorated baskets and boxes, many with Thanksgiving themes, were then judged. Staff delivering the baskets to families’ homes included: Tyrone Johnson, Gary Hilliard, Michael Walkes, Chris Williams, Vanessa Curry, Julian DelaCruz and Cassandra St. Furcy.
