Mixed in with the marching bands, luxurious floats and massive balloons at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year was Belle Harbor resident Martha Bennett, who marched with Camp Broadway accompanying the popular ZhuZhu Pets Zhu-Universe float.

The 12-year-old local was selected after five weeks of national auditions from among a pool of more than 1,000 girls who tried out for the honor.

At the parade, Bennett and the others performed an original song, “There’s No Place Like Here,” for the throngs lining the parade route.

She was also one of a smaller group of 20 Camp Broadway performers who participated in the recording of the music from the parade at a Manhattan recording studio. In addition, Bennett participated in a week-long series of workshops, classes and rehearsals leading up to the parade.
