Roger N. Benjamin

Truck Driver

Roger N. Benjamin, a longtime Rockaway resident, died November 26.

Benjamin was born in Waynesboro, Georgia and moved to Rockaway 24 years ago from Jamaica, New York. He was a retired truck driver for Local 38 and Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Benjamin was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Odom Benjamin and daughter, Margaret Benjamin.

He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Forbes; brother, Robert Benjamin; grandchildren, Bobby Forbes Jr., Paul, Pamela James-Beverly and Cherilyn Forbes; and great-grandchildren, Jason Jr., Ashlay, Shemeka, Jasmyn and William.

A funeral mass will take place at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Far Rockaway on Saturday, December 3, at 5 p.m. Interment will remain private.

He was well known in Far Rockaway because for many years, he was in the Mott Avenue - Far Rockaway subway station early in the morning sharing the Watchtower and Awake and greeting commuters with expressions like, "GOOD MORNING, I'M HEEEEERE!"
