Rockaway Zuccotti Park #2
My name is Robert Gamere, and I have been a resident of Rockaway Beach for six years. I wrote a letter to the editor on November 11 and The Wave published it.
It was titled “Rockaway Zuccotti Park.” My letter’s purpose was to bring attention to underage drinking at a bar/restaurant on Beach 102 Street, and the fisticuffs that followed. I personally was a witness to this dangerous behavior, as were quite a few police officers and emergency responders. There were 80-100 youths in the street yelling and screaming. I was not able to park my care due to the crowds and fighting.
My reference to “Zuccotti Park” was a comparison to the crowds – that’s all!
Subsequently, two of The Wave’s readers have written articles putting a different spin on my article. My article was not “politically motivated” at all. I recommend that John Baxter and Frank Gerace revisit my article and then sign up for a class in “reading comprehension.”
I consider myself a communityminded person, not a political activist like these two men. The gall of John Baxter to try to tell you what articles to print and what not to. I am an avid reader of The Wave and I always see articles published for him. Mr. John Baxter, just to set the record straight, I work in Lower Manhattan, so I am quite familiar with Zuccotti Park and I did not need a seeing-eye dog to get there. Mr. Gerace, and Mr. Baxter, my last advice to the both of you is, worry less about Zuccotti Park and more about “Rockaway Park.”
