Xaverian Swim Team Off To Quick Start

Talk about getting out of the gate quickly! That’s exactly what the freshman swim team at Xaverian did this fall, riding a host of school records to the team’s best finish ever – third place in the New York City Championships. “It’s a great achievement for the boys,” said coach John Ward. “We placed third behind Chaminade and Fordham Prep, each of whom is a perennial power in the league. Each of these kids has an exciting four years ahead of him.” Among the records set by this talented group was the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, at which Robert Helbock and Chris Langan teamed with Belle Harbor’s Eddie Morgan and Tom Lynch to break the Xaverian mark that had stood since 1998. With the Varsity season now underway, all of these young men will be tested on a new level. If, however, their initial performance is an indication, there’s a bright future on the horizon for the Xaverian swim team.
