Sorrentino Recreational Center Happenings

The Sorrentino Grimey finished as runnersup in the 12-14 year old division at the NFL/PAL/Parks and Recreation Flag Football Citi-Wide championships held at Macombs Dam Park in the Bronx last Saturday.

Sorrentino earned a berth to the finals, but lost to the representatives from the Bronx, 20-6. The Sorrentino Raiders (8-11 division) and the Sorrentino Deuce in the 15-17 year old division were eliminated in the first round. The coaches for the teams were Stan Brown, recreation director and Robert Lindo, recreation specialist. The center manager is Chaleene Nash. Stepping To The Apollo

Stan’s Pepper Steppers and the Jr. Pepper Steppers will compete at the 20th Annual David A. Walker Memorial National Double Dutch League Holiday classic on Sunday, December 4 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Apollo Theater.

The Pepper Steppers are the reigning champions in the speed category for 11 years in a row.

Students from around the world compete for team positions at the national and international level. Contestants incorporate speed and music with a fusion of dance, Hip- Hop and gymnastics moves.

Tickets are $22 in person at the Apollo Theater Box Office. The Apollo is located at 253 West 125 Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues in Manhattan. Mommy And Me Tournament

The Sorrentino Recreation Center will hold its 20th Annual Mommy and Me Double Dutch Tournament on Saturday, December 3. The tournament will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sorrentino Center, which is located at 1848 Cornaga Avenue (Corner of Beach 19 Street and Cornaga Avenue).

This event will bond mothers and their children. They will share quality time together in a sport that teaches dedication and hard work. They will also enjoy participating in the sport, share responsibilities such as turning and jumping and learning what teamwork means.
