The Goose Is Cooked! Or, Is It?
News Events/Travel Editor/Host • WNYX - TV Morning News • 12:00 noon on UHF Chs. 35 & 26 Monday - Friday

My dear friends, I am referring to the Blue Goose, the shuttle bus that runs around Breezy Point to take residents to the circle, Fort Tilden, to hook up with buses to Brooklyn and the Rockaways. It used to be a FREE bus, then a fare of ONE Dollar a trip was placed on it. Now the Coop Board is asking for TWO DOLLARS.

I agree with Barbara Genoese, a Breezy Pointer and friend of mine, who wrote a letter to the editor in the local FREE paper that she is against this. I back her 100%. The people have to protest. Seniors, schoolchildren, employed adults and others depend on this bus service to get to local stores and other destinations. The community is basically a Christian community but now people of various religious backgrounds live there. What I am trying to say is the Coop Board decisions should be based on compassion and humane needs of their “Family.”

The residents cannot afford this. Go back to the FREE bus service and find financial means elsewhere. I do know Cooperatives around this country have too much power and they can do whatever they want to do unless the people themselves attend the meetings and object to the practices that are against their moral code. AND THEY MUST ELECT BOARD MEMBERS WHO ARE GOING TO ABIDE BY THEIR WISHES. We also see that with the city. The city is about to raise the toll on the Cross Bay Bridge. They are locking the people of the Rockaways in so that they cannot afford to reach the other boroughs. It is a disgrace! And, it has to be stopped. Feedback is welcome dorothydunne@yahoo.com

If you can afford to get out of the Rockaways you may want to visit the Guggenheim Museum on Fifth Avenue. The Maurizio Cattelan exhibit is extraordinary. His works hang from the ceiling of the Rotunda and it is exciting and fascinating. He is hailed as a provocateur, prankster and tragic poet of our times and has created some of the most unforgettable images of recent contemporary art. Go see it! You will be glad you did. It will be there till January 22, 2012. I was blown away.

If you are a veggie eater and miss eating meat there is a new meat substitute on the market today called SEITAN, the meat of wheat, similar to the look and texture of meat when cooked. It is high in protein. Over 1,000 years ago Seitan was prepared by Zen Buddists in China and Japan. I tasted it at a vegetarian tasting put on by Taft Foodmasters LLC and found it to be quite good. It is a fast food/quick service item found in ethnic restaurants.
