Kosmos Girls Soccer Teams Shutout The Competition

The Kosmos Techno girls continued their winning streak by beating the Manhasset Ladyhawks by a score of 4-0. The goals for this game were made by; Maria Di Carlo (2), Emma Meade, and Molly Breslin. These goals were all made possible due to heads up passing and foot control by Lauren Marten (3), and Maria Di Carlo.

The girls took their time feeling out Manhasset, and once they got into their groove, they made the scoring happen. Lauren Marten maintained the midfield along with Nicole Gibson, Kelly Santiago, and Gwyn “Maradona” McGee. When this foursome needed some rest, their spot was filled with the talent of Erin Kennedy and Katie Sammon, who made solid runs and passes down the wing, keeping the pressure on Manhasset. The defense, led by Carli Bopp, held strong on any push the Ladyhawks attempted.

Fellow defenders, Allison Tipaldo, Devin Gavigan, Meaghan LaSorsa, and Bridget Breslin supported the midfield when needed and controlled the tempo of the game like a well oiled machine. The team is looking forward to their final game of the season this Saturday, when they play the first place team, New Hyde Park Tigers at Aviator Sports Complex.

The Kosmos Artemis U10 girls defeated Rockville Center (RVC) Sting by a score of 5-0. The girls took the lead from the kick-off when Catherine Lunny dribbled through 5 girls and shot one past the goalie at the 23 second mark of the game.

RVC then attempted to start the game again, when Catherine Lunny received a pass from Beth Dunn, dribbled again past 5 Sting players and shot another blast, making the score 2-0.

The girls maintained control the rest of the half, especially when Kaysea Jenkusky stole the ball off a goal kick, dribbled two steps and blasted a ball over the Sting goalkeeper, making the score 3-0.

The second half started as the first ended, with Artemis handling the ball like pros. Katie Roventini swiped the ball from the midfield, placed a pass on the foot of Kaysea Jenkusky, who put the moves on the Sting defense. She drew the goalie to her right and then blasted her second goal of the game.

The final goal of the day came when Maggie Murphy took the ball down the left wing, dribbled inside and placed a picture perfect pass on the foot of Katie Hughes. Hughes took the lead pass and blasted a shot over the head of the Sting goalie, making the score 5-0.

It was a tremendous game in defense by Sophia Edri and Nikki Cimino, who each stopped any push that RVC attempted. Sydney Colleran, Katie Roventin played a heads up game in midfield, stealing almost every ball that came their way and making strong passes to the forwards. These two even made a few passes back to the defenders, just so they could switch the side of the field.

Goalie Katie Hughes and Sydney Colleran had an overall easy day in net, touching the ball 2 times each. The girls look forward to their final regular season game this Saturday in Glen Cove.
