No More Housing Developments

Dear Editor,

The east end of Rockaway (known as the East End Renewal) does not need any more new housing development. The ones already built here are not being bought but just being rented to all the programs and drug people imaginable. No one is buying these houses. They just created a classier kind of project here.

What is really needed is either a large shopping mall or an outlet store areas like the ones in Riverhead or the huge mall in East New York by the Belt Parkway. That would create jobs and a place for people in all Rockaway to shop. We have no decent shopping in the entire peninsula. We have to travel outside Rockaway for anything we have to buy. Also some nice upscale restaurants.

Stop building places to live when there are no places to shop or eat in. This would create jobs for our population on this peninsula to work in. A place like Wal-Mart would be ideal and even another huge supermarket chain store is need, in the east end. All we have is shabby houses and projects, panhandlers up and down Beach 20 Street. Also many stores on Beach 20 Street are going out of business or have already closed down.

Please consider an outlet area (like Tangers), a mall, a huge discount store, etc. What a shame when we have acres of vacant land for over 50 years just sitting there. No taxes are collected and it is a dumping ground for garbage. Please consider this very important idea for our entire peninsula.
