Bag Of Mail

Dear Editor,

I would like to respond to the letter a few weeks ago from Steve Gifford who wants to know why Davis Road in Riis Park/Fort Tilden has not been cleaned of sand since the hurricane. From my experience with GNRA, there is less and less being done on this side of the Marine Park Bridge. Everything, including the GNRA offices, has been moved to Floyd Bennett Field.

The only thing they seem to be interested in is the beach and the parking. Little by little everything else in the park is being pushed out and they have less and less to do on our side of the bridge and I am assuming that that includes cleaning Davis Road. I’ve driven on the road many times and it is a beautiful sight looking out to the ocean.

To answer your questions: 1. Why hasn’t anything been done yet? The park service does not want to spend the money; 2. When will it be done? If you are lucky, maybe by the spring; 3. Whom can you contact? Try your federal representatives Turner, Schumer and Gillibrand. My organization, The Rockaway Music and Arts Council, has been trying to get someone to answer our correspondence and phone calls and no one responds. Good luck.
