Choosing The Right Flowers For Your Wedding

Choosing flowers for a spring or summer wedding is a no brainer. There are little limitations in availability and there is a bounty of sweet pastel or bright sunny flowers that pair together for a seasonal bouquet or centerpiece. Loosely clustered flowers are gathered with a soft, fresh picked “garden” feel and any combination really comes together beautifully. Planning flowers for an autumn wedding is a little more challenging for the average person because so many of the available flowers are not seen in everyday gardens so they are not widely known by the average person. Lush, richly hued clusters of burgundy, rust and burnt orange complement each other just as much as the plums and yellows inspire a dramatic, seasonal look. Your options are as stylish and gorgeous as ever and the assortment of flowers available this time of year is so different.

You can choose from the velvety textured black magic roses, deeply colored black dahlias, plum calla lilies, and purple majesty millet.

Nothing complements these rich tones better than the honey colored orchids, peach berries or bold clusters of mini sunflowers with a green center. Red rovers and sunset lilies offer a beautiful shade of rust that can be paired with brighter hues of red and orange for a traditional seasonal look with a bright pop of color. Flowers in a bold shade of purple really make a beautiful and unexpected twist on a fall arrangement. Antique peegee hydrangea can be used with almost any combination of fall flowers for a Victorian or romantic feel. They add so much beauty to even simple shades of white and ivory flowers, and really give your centerpieces a seasonal, elegant look.

This season offers so many interesting accents that will help to complement your choice of wedding flowers.

Natural oak leaves come in many shades of fall and give a dramatic effect while berries or natural pods add texture.

Use the autumn harvest for inspiration. Line small potted mums down the center of a long table and cluster them with gourds or pumpkins to make a great centerpiece for a casual affair. I love to work fresh fruit into a table centerpiece at this time of year. Imagine a full cluster or peach, terracotta and creme blush roses with trails of ivy and small green apples. A bright centerpiece of burnt orange lilies, deep pink heather, rust rovers and fresh pomegranates. The possibilities are endless, and really add something different to your flowers.

Earthy containers or copper pots make an interesting alternative to the traditional glass vase. An antiqued ceramic or gold leaf vase can completely change the look and add so much interest to even a simple cluster of blooms. Hollowed out pumpkins filled with bunches of seasonal flowers and hints of wheat or cattails really make a great conversation piece.
