Rockaway Renegades Split In Doubleheader

The 10U Rockaway Renegades faced off against a very good Amity squad for a baseball doubleheader on Saturday in the NY Travel League. The Renegades could only manage a split as Amity handed them their first defeat of the season in game two. Timmy Connolly started game one and allowed just 1 run and only 1 hit while striking out 14 as the Renegades took it by a score of 3- 1. Chris Koenig had 2 hits and an RBI, and 2 web gems were turned in by Liam Malsy at shortstop.

The Renegades’ other pitching horse, James Byrne, took the hill for game two and he faced another quality Amity pitcher. The Renegades had a very slim 1-0 lead after 4, but their defense let them down allowing Amity to score single runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Amity snuffed out a late Renegades threat to seal the victory 2-1. Byrne also went the whole way on the hill, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 9. Ryan Meade had a hit and a Web Gem for Rockaway, which is now 7-1 on the season. Their next doubleheader is 9 a.m. on Saturday at Kings Bay.
