Broad Channel Midget Shamrocks Snap Losing Streak
The BCAC Midget Shamrocks are back to their winning ways, thanks to a huge home win this past Sunday against Plainedge. The Shamrocks were coming into the game with a three game losing streak.
The Shamrocks came out fast and furious on defense, not allowing a first down in the first half of play. Andrew Visconti and Michael O’Connell each had a sack and 5 tackles on the day, and Nicholas Rodgers joined in with 6 tackles on the day. Peter Meehan led all with 7 tackles and a huge fumble recovery that got the Shamrocks the ball on their own 12-yard line.
Other big contributors on the defensive side of the ball were Vincent Powell, Vincent Nizzo, Nicco Finizio, Antonio Pagan and Michael Bukiewicz. The big moment came when JJ Negron came up with his first tackle of his young career. Coach Kenny only yelled five times over the course of the game, so you know that the Shamrock defense was playing to its potential all afternoon.
The real fireworks started on the offensive side of the ball, starting with another outstanding performance by the offensive line. The blocks came from Sebastian Frieberg, Ryan Hanning, Eddie Sinisgali, Liam Dodo, Sam Frito and Giancarlo Conti. Quarterback Jack Collins effectively spotted the blitz all afternoon and because of that he was successful in getting the ball to his running backs.
Dillon Ostrander had 61 yards rushing on the day and Peter Meehan had 224 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns. On two of them he broke free for more than 90-yard dashes. That’s right; Meehan had four touchdowns on the day which is four more touchdowns than Coach Timmy has in his football playing career. Michael O’Connell also almost completed a 60-yard Hail Mary pass at the end of the first half that got the crowd going crazy as he threw it. Coach Gene promises him that he will get at least one touchdown pass this year. When the clock ran out, the BCAC Midget Shamrocks were victorious by the score of 24-14.
Now it is time for the BCAC Shamrock Fan of the Week and it is another tie. This week’s winners are Mrs. Pagan, who brought munchkins and Mrs. Visconti who brought oranges. Coach Sean tried to say thank you to them but his mouth was filled with munchkins at the time.
This week the Shamrocks take to the road for the last time this regular season as they face Oyster Bay on Saturday night at 6 p.m. So come out and cheer on the Shamrocks as they go for two in a row.
