Red Door Closing

Dear Editor,

Due to escalating operating costs, St. John’s thrift store, The Red Door, will be closing at the end of November, 20ll.

Anyone who is familiar with The Red Door knows that it is (was) much more than a store. It is (was) a gathering place, a home away from home; somewhere you could find warm and welcoming staff. Whether you bought something or not, there was often congenial conversation on topics from the weather to the world situation.

There were many “regulars” who frequented the store and often told of the appreciation they had not only for the “goods,” but also for the kindnesses of the staff. On many occasions, Brother Tom Trager gave furniture to Rockaway residents in need and the boys of St. John’s also benefited by these donations. These are just some of the many wonderful memories with many wonderful people.

St. John’s is very grateful for the thousands of pieces of furniture and household items that were generously donated since the store’s opening on December 16, 1995. We are also appreciative of the many people who patronized the store and showed their enthusiastic support. Thanks again for your support, patronage and friendship. It was an honor to have served you.

RITA TORRECELLI
