St. Rose Of Lima Celebrates 125th Anniversary
On Sunday, October 16 at the 5 p.m. Mass, the Knights of Columbus helped to bring yet another important celebration to the 125th Anniversary of St. Rose of Lima. They arranged to have a Latin Mass said, as Latin was the Traditional Mass years ago. They also had “Latin English Booklet Missals” for praying the Traditional Mass, which were distributed to the Congregation as they arrived for Mass.
The Knights of Columbus, Rockaway Council including the Commander, Charles Gaughan; Navigator, Larry Kelly; Guardsmen, Michael Agostini and Ruben Martinez were there in their regalia. This actually was very rewarding to the parishioners who remember when Mass was only in Latin; as well as an enlightening experience for the younger congregation.
Msgr. Vincent A. Keane was assisted in this Mass by Pastor Rev. Msgr. James Spengler; Father James Divine, Past Pastor; Altar Servers were Knights from the Council, Patrick Nee and William Mills. Grace Matubis, organist, led the congregation in hymns. She sang “Ave Maria” in Latin. After Mass coffee and cake were served at St. Rose of Lima’s School.
As the year is winding down, St. Rose is having its Annual Dinner Dance at Russo’s on the Bay on Thursday, October 27, 6:30 p.m. The honorees are, of course, the priests who served this congregation throughout the years. The finale will be celebrated on Sunday, October 30 at the 10:30 Mass. This Mass will be the Closing Mass for the 125th Anniversary. All are invited to attend this Celebration.
