SJEH Holding 33rd Annual Chrysanthemum Ball

St. John’s Episcopal Hospital of Episcopal Health Services, Inc., will hold its 33rd Annual Chrysanthemum Ball on Saturday, November 5, at the Sands in Atlantic Beach. The charity ball proceeds will benefit the emergency, critical and intensive care services, as well as cardiology, obstetrics/gynecology and imaging at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital.

“We encourage everyone to come and support this very special evening,” said Margaret Carpenter, vice president, Board of Managers of Episcopal Health Services and president of the St. John’s Development Board. “The provision of health care to our community through Episcopal Health Services is central to the mission of our Diocese. This is a way for everyone to participate in this vital ministry,” she added.

At the Ball, the Development Board will award two individuals the Hospital’s highest honor, the Humanitarian Award. The 2011 Humanitarian Award recipients are Mekala Ramgopal, MD, Attending, Internal Medicine/Gastroenterology, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, and Tommy Parlionas, Chief Executive Officer, Modern Technology Contracting Corporation.

Dr. Ramgopal specializes in geriatric medicine and gastroenterology. He has been affiliated with St. John’s for more than 30 years. He has also served as medical director of Bishop McLean Episcopal Nursing Home for five years. He has worked tirelessly to promote excellence in health care for the Rockaway community, particularly in the area of geriatrics.

He was one of the first physicians to obtain board certification in the subspecialty of geriatrics. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is also a Certified Medical Director and a Board Member of the New York Medical Directors Association. He has also been included in Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. in its book, Top Doctors: New York Metro Area, for the past 10 years.

Tommy Parlionas has extensive knowledge and expertise in building construction, development and engineering. He has been involved in many successful businesses throughout his career. In 1992, he founded Modern Technology Contracting Corporation, a commercial construction company in the New York City region that specializes in building development, facade restoration, waterproofing, and new building construction. One of his most recent ventures includes Prime Importing International, LLC, an import and export company with headquarters in New York and Guangzhou, China. Parlionas is a generous supporter of the betterment of health care in the community.

Cocktails will be served at 7:30 p.m. and dinner at 8:30 p.m.
