PS256 Awards Their Mouse Squad

PS 256 was awarded the title “MOUSE Squad of the Year 2011” for their exceptional technical support and a unique project they created to help students with special needs to become expert technicians.

MOUSE, a national youth development nonprofit organization, and City Councilmember James Sanders Jr. hosted an event to congratulate and recognize the significant accomplishments of students participating in the MOUSE program at PS 256 in Far Rockaway.

The school’s MOUSE Squad is comprised of three groups of students that span elementary, middle and high school. This is the third year PS 256 is participating in the MOUSE Squad program, the MOUSE Squad provides technical support in their schools, while also enhancing leadership and teambuilding skills essential to their success today and in the future. PS 256 is an NYC District 75 Public School, serving students with special needs. In addition to their valued technical support role, the PS 256 MOUSE Squad has also developed a Technology Repair Manual to give students with special needs the opportunity to expertly handle technical issues. This unique project was recently awarded “Most Potential for Social Impact” at the Emoti-Con NYC Youth Digital Media and Technology Festival and is garnering interest from schools across their district.
