Kosmos Athena Defends First Place Position

Last weekend, the GU14 Kosmos Athena soccer team successfully defended its spot at the top of the league from the second place West Hempstead Firebirds.

The girls came on strong sharing goals among the attackers. It started with an early goal from wing Shannon Rochelle off of Samantha O’Brien’s first assist of the game. O’Brien scored 15 minutes later, assisted by Gabby Breen.

The girls gave up their first goal in four weeks on a direct kick off a handball but strong play by the outside backs, Allie McGuire, Rory Kirk and Amanda Doschner on the wings, led to a number of goals to hold the lead. In the second half, assisted by O’Brien and Breen again, midfielder Hayley Urban and winger Aleksandra Necka-Huptysiowska both scored from the outside ending the game 4-1. Rockaway Kosmos Girls Make the Cut

A number of the Rockaway Kosmos’ girls successfully tried out for area select soccer teams this fall. Sydney Urban, Taylor Bryan, Lauren Koenig, Katie McNamara and Noelle Carey made the Long Island Junior Rough Riders for the second year in a row and will be joined by newcomers Niamh Gormley and Sabrina McCarthy.

Hayley Urban and Morgan Koenig were accepted into the LIJSL Select Player Development Program.

Congratulations to all of the players for their achievements.
