BCAC Midgets Comeback Attempt Just Falls Short

The BCAC Midget Shamrocks lost another close game at home last Saturday night, this time to Wantagh by a score of 26 to 18.

Wantagh came out fast scoring on their first two possessions of the game to put the Shamrocks in a 13-0 hole. This did not deter the Shamrocks from staging yet another heroic comeback try.

Runningback Peter Meehan would score on a one-yard touchdown to close the gap to 13-6. After another Wantagh scoring touchdown, BCAC was down 20-6 with less than one minute left in the half.

Meehan scored again – this time a 60- yard touchdown on a double reverse. Meehan finished the day with 131 yards rushing and Dillon Ostrander finished with 62 yards rushing. Wantagh would have the ball again at the end of the first half and would have scored if it was not for two touchdown-saving tackles by Vincent Powell and Sebastian Frieberg. The score at the half was Wantagh 20, Shamrock 12.

In the second half, quarterback Jack Collins started calling audibles at the line of scrimmage and marched the Shamrocks down the field.

The result was a one-yard touchdown by Michael O’Connell to cut the gap to 26-18.

The Shamrock defense stepped up the pressure and stopped Wantagh on fourth down to get the ball back with one minute left in the game. The defense was led by O’Connell and Meehan, who each had 5 tackles and Sam Fretto who had 2 tackles and a sack. Vincent Nizzo started on defense for the first time this year and had 3 tackles. Other big names on defense were Andrew Visconti, Nicholas Rodgers, Luke Jackowsk, Antonio Pagan and JJ Negron. Unfortunately, the Shamrocks were not able to get in the end zone and tie the game, leaving the Shamrocks 2-3 on the year.

The coaches were proud of their team at the end of the game, especially the offensive line that blocked with passion the whole game, which was led by Ed Sinisgali, Liam Doda, Ryan Hanning, Michael Bukiewicz and Nicco Finizio.

Now it is time for the BCAC Shamrock Fan of the Week and it is a tie. The Fans of the Week are Mrs. Sinisgali and Mr. Collins. When Mrs. Sinisgali won the first 50/50 of the day, she donated all of it back to the BCAC. Then Jack Collins Sr. followed in Mrs. Sinisgali’s footsteps and donated the 50/50 winnings he received from the second raffle of the day back to the BCAC as well. Thank you to both Mr. Collins and Mrs. Sinisgali, you both have big hearts, are very charitable and now it has paid off. You both are the BCAC Fans of the Week.

If you would like to be in the running for Fan of the Week, then go on the road this Saturday as the Shamrocks face North Babylon on the road at 6 p.m.
