Sanders Calls Demonstrations‘Courageous’
New York City Councilman and Chairman of the Council’s Committee on Civil Service and Labor, James Sanders Jr., has released the following statement, announcing his strong support for the ongoing Wall Street protests.
“These protests are tapping into the deep feelings of unrest and outrage that is palpable throughout middle class America. All over the country, people are feeling victimized by Wall Street’s ongoing gambling problem and betrayed by a government that seems unable or unwilling to do anything about it. The greed and corruption that brought our entire financial system to the brink of total collapse has not been eliminated. Unemployment and underemployment are rampant, and hope, the catalyst that propelled President Obama to the White House, is starting to fade out.
“These courageous protestors are trying to restore that hope, by sending the message loud and clear that the true engine of America’s economy has always been and will always be the middle class: the teachers and police officers, the fire fighters and construction crews, the painters and transit workers; the very people who literally build our infrastructure, keep us safe and create the future are the ones feeling the heat in this economy. I’m proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with these brave young people to say plainly: Enough is enough.”
