Sorrentino Center Adult Basketball Tournament Begins

The City of N.Y. Parks and Recreation Center “First Annual 30 and Older- Quality of Life” Basketball Tournament began this week at the Sorrentino Recreation Center, located at 18-48 Cornaga Avenue.

There are six teams from the Rockaway Peninsula, with 10 players per team, participating in the tournament. Games are played on Thursdays and Fridays; the first game starts at 7p.m.

The tournament will continue through November. This week’s games brought a lot of excitement and energy to the center, with standing room only in the gymnasium. In the first week’s games: Runnin Rebels beat the Old School Ballers (64-20), 2 Hood beat Team Likdat (72-53) and Alliance beat Team Deuce (63-50).

An adult tournament has not been played at Sorrentino in a long time; Center Manager Chaleene Nash established an idea that proved to be one that the community has wanted and is truly enjoying. Thanks are due the staff, Stan Brown, Robert Lindo and Shannon Montgomery, for their assistance with this tournament.

Stay tuned – there’s more to come.
