Matthew B. Geoghegan
Matthew B. Geoghegan, a longtime Rockaway resident, died October 5.
Geoghegan was born in Valleybeg, Ennis, County Clare, Ireland. He lived in Rockaway for 10 years coming from Manhattan. He was an operating engineer. Geoghegan served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. He was a member of Local 30 and Local 32BJ, Emerald Guild and VVA.
He is survived by his wife, Bridget (nee McCabe); son, Patrick; daughters, Margaret Stack (Tommy), Annmarie Mollenhauer (Steve) and Carmel Geoghegan; two grandchildren, Matt and Danny; and he was a brother, brother-in-law, uncle and cousin to many in the United States, Ireland and England.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 7, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. A funeral mass will take place at St. Francis de Sales Church, Belle Harbor on Saturday, October 8, at 9:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the American Diabetes Association and the Vietnam Veterans Association.
