The PS/MS 105 Kids Care Club Participates In Beach Clean-Up
On September 17 members of the 105 Kids Care Club participated in the International Coastal Cleanup Day as part of their activities in the community. With their usual enthusiasm and renewed energy, students collected and counted plastic bottles and other debris polluting the Jamaica Bay waters. Students also weeded around the trees and cleaned broken branches left behind by Hurricane Irene. Participants were pleased to work under the guidance of Marlen Waaijer, member of the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance, who every year invites volunteers to help with the cleanup. Waaijer’s contagious commitment to the protection of the bay life and her knowledge of environmental issues, made the event a great learning experience for children and chaperones. Teachers N. Allende, T. Krieger and M. Goldberg with parent Linda Camacho, led the wonderful volunteers.
