Shots Ring Out On Far Rockaway Night

In one of the incidents, a 40-year-old unidentified man was shot once in the abdomen.

In the other, while no injuries were reported, shell casings were found at the scene.

The first ‘shots fired’ calls came at 6:47 p.m. from Beach 25 Street and Brookhaven Avenue in Far Rockaway. There were several calls to the 911 system reporting the shots, police sources say.

Police responding to the call searched the area but could not find a victim. However, they did find several shells froma9mmautomaticweapon.

Police checked both the Peninsula Hospital Center and St. John’s Episcopal Hospital emergency rooms looking for a victim, but the searches had negative results.

The second shooting of the night was more serious, police say, with a man being transported to the Jamaica Hospital trauma center.

At about 7:01 p.m., just 15 minutes after the first shots fired incident, police were called to 124 Beach 56 Place in Arverne, in the Ocean Village Houses. They found the 40-year-old man bleeding with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The victim reportedly told police that he did not see who shot him and had no idea of a motive for his wounds.
