Another Accident At Beach 92 Street

Another nasty accident at the dangerous intersection of Beach Channel Drive and Beach 92 Street, near McDonald’s and the entrance of the Cross Bay Bridge, has residents calling for improved traffic conditions around the area.

According to one resident of Beach 92 Street, there have been four car accidents since June with the latest occurring on Monday at around 5:30 p.m.

“The light at 90th Street only makes it more dangerous for pedestrians and bicycle riders trying to cross Beach Channel Drive and 92nd Street going to and from the three restaurants on the Bay, O’Connor’s Funeral Home and the Pedestrian/ Bike walk on the Bridge, because of the speeding cars trying to make the 90th Street green light,” resident Dotsy Livingston Kearns told The Wave this week.

The busy intersection also includes a pair of stop signs for motorists approaching the eastbound side of Beach Channel Drive, one coming from a Cross Bay Bridge ramp and another from Beach 94 Street. Motorists, Kearns says, often roll through these stop signs while looking over their shoulders at the oncoming Beach Channel Drive traffic.
