Last Second Touchdown Seals Peanut ShamrocksWin
The BCAC Peanut Shamrocks traveled to Brentwood on Sunday, September 18, for an 11 a.m. football game.
The Shamrocks won the coin toss and their offense took the field. Matthew Stack (40 yards rushing, 1 touchdown) scored on a 25-yard run. Aidan Leary (40 yards rushing, TD) scored on the next possession on a 10-yard run. The score was tied 12-12 going into halftime.
Brentwood’s offense scored quickly to open up the second half.
The Shamrock offense would answer with Lukas Weiss turning the corner on an exciting 40-yard run for the gametying touchdown.
The defenses on both sides stopped several possessions late in the game until the Shamrock’s last offensive possession with five minutes remaining. The offensive line of Frankie Sinisgalli (center), James Arena, Hayden Malsy, Lukas Weiss and Logan Hilgendorf started to open up nice running lanes. On a 3rd and 5, Hayden Malsy completed a 6-yard run for a big first down. The offense turned to Frankie Sinisgalli to carry them the rest of the way, coming up with three big first downs. Sinisgalli (35 yards rushing) scored from 2 yards out for the go ahead touchdown with 7 seconds left on the clock.
Brentwood’s offense stormed the field with 3 time outs trying to tie the game. The Shamrock defense was led by linebackers Lukas Weiss, Aiden Leary and Danny Ognian and free safety Matthew Stack.
The defensive lineman, consisting of were Brendan Henglein, Landon Churchhill, Brian Keller and Joseph Esposito (2 tackles), stopped Brentwood on two consecutive plays to seal the Shamrocks’ first win, 24-18. Matthew Stack and Lukas Weiss led the Shamrocks in tackles.
The coaches and parents were so proud of their team, cheering for them right to the very end.
