BCAC Midget Shamrocks Comes Up Clutch To Record Win Over East Meadow
The BCAC Midget Shamrocks are still on a roll as they came up with a victory this past Saturday night.
The Shamrocks took to the field to face the East Meadow Rams. The game got off to a fast start as Michael O’Connell sacked East Meadows’quarterback on the first play from scrimmage. The Rams would get a touchdown on their opening drive, but the Shamrock defense stepped up and stopped the Rams from getting the extra point. The Shamrocks were down 6-0 and then their offense took over.
Dillon Ostrander (91 yards rushing) would break free for a 24-yard touchdown and Peter Meehan (87 yards rushing) would follow with a successful extra point to take the lead 7-6.
After another Rams touchdown, the Shamrocks answered with a 38-yard touchdown run by Meehan and the extra point by O’Connell to go up 14-12 at the half. The successful ground assault was once again credited to the offensive line, which has been the back-bone of the Shamrock offense the first three weeks. Credit goes to Liam Doda, Luke Jackowski, Sam Fretto, JJ Negron, Antonio Pagan, Vincent Nizzo, Michael Bukiewicz and Edward Sinisgalli.
The second half would start great for the Shamrock offense again as quarterback Jack Collins helped control the ball for the whole third quarter. The drive finished with a 5-yard touchdown by Ostrander, his second on the day. The Shamrocks were in the lead 20-12.
Then the BCAC defense stepped up to keep the Rams out of the end zone. They came up with 6 sacks on the day, highlighted by Sebastian “Sea Bass” Frieberg; whose sack was reminiscent of the great LT (by the way that’s Lawrence Taylor, not Ladainian Tomlinson). Other big names on the defensive side of the ball were Luke Jackowski, Giancarlo Conti, Nicco Finizio, Andrew Visconti and Nicholas Rogers.
The Rams would get a quick score as time ran out which led to the dramatic ending. East Meadow needed to kick the ball for the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 20. Everyone in the stands was on their feet and going crazy for the Shamrocks. The snap was high and the Shamrocks recovered the ball to seal the 20-18 victory as they continue to live up to their nickname “The Cardiac Kids.”
Now it is time for BCAC Shamrock Fan of the Week and it goes to Mrs. Fretto. Sam’s mom can be heard screaming for the Shamrocks from the opening whistle until the game ends. She sometimes gets so excited that she chants “Defense,” when the Shamrocks are on offense. So congrats Mrs. Fretto, you are the Shamrock Fan of the Week. This Sunday the Shamrocks take to the road to face the Seaford Broncos at 1:30 p.m. So please come out and watch the BCAC Midget Shamrocks continue their winning ways.
