That’s More Like It
Hello, my name is Belinda Mallory- Edwards and I am the secretary on the board at Water’s Edge at Arverne Condominiums located between Beach 59- 62 Street, including Beach Front Road between Beach 60-62 Street in Arverne, NY. I wanted to thank Captain Scott J. Olexa and the 100 Precinct on behalf of Waters Edge for their prompt response to a problem that we were having in our community.
The problem that we were having was that there was constant barbecuing on the sidewalk on Beach 60 Street and Beach Front Road, right outside of the park. It was to the point that it was occurring all day into the late hours of the night, mostly Friday-Sunday. The people barbecuing would be in the street, with loud music and leaving most of their litter, charcoal, and whatever else behind for someone else to clean up.
We didn’t know where to turn, so a few of the Water’s Edge owners, along with myself, attended the 100 Precinct Community Council meeting to voice our concerns. At that meeting is where we met 100 Precinct Community Council President Danny Ruscillo Jr. and Captain Scott J. Olexa of the 100 Precinct. We expressed our frustration of what was happening with the barbecues in hopes that something would be done. We also requested more police presence in our condominium community and in the surrounding area.
I am happy to report that Captain Olexa listened to our concerns and addressed our problem quickly. The next day after the meeting, we noticed a difference. We saw more police presence around the area. It came to a point that the barbecues have stopped.
We are happy that Captain Olexa was able to help us out with this situation. We knew that it had to be difficult being that the police force has decreased since 911 and through attrition!
Once again, we here at Water’s Edge appreciate what Captain Olexa and the 100 Precinct have done to improve our community and make our community feel safe.
