New West End Temple Student Cantor

West End Temple West End Temple The West End Temple, a reform Jewish congregation in Neponsit, recently announced a new staff addition. Amanda Winter, orginally from Roanoke, Virginia, was named the new Student Cantor.

Winter is a fourth-year cantorial student at the Hebrew Union College-Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music, and became interested in becoming a cantor at age 15, after participation in local synagogue events and at camp.

She later graduated with a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from the University of Tennessee- Knoxville, with minors in both music and Spanish.

While in college, Winter taught at a local religious school, and has previous cantorial experience in Jerusalem, Illinois, and on Long Island.

She has also taught music and Spanish at the high school level.

While the congregation will officially welcome their new Student Cantor at Shabbat services this Friday evening (September 16) at 7:30, she has already “won over” many of the congregants while performing at a recent Bar Mitzvah and while singing at the temple’s recent 9-11 memorial service.
