The Belle Harbor Property Owners Association called an emergency beach cleanup on Thursday, September 1, due to Hurricane Irene. Bags, shovels and rakes were provided by the NYC Department of Sanitation. The beaches of Belle Harbor were cleaned up by volunteers and an effort was made to remove sand from the sidewalks and baffles near the beach. Executive Vice President Linda Benigno and her husband, Lou, as well as Rose Klein helped organize the event.
