Activists Walk The Shore To Stop Beach Erosion

Walk for the Shore was held on the boardwalk at Beach 87 Street where residents, community leaders and local activists gathered to walk on the sand to Beach 103 Street to raise awareness about beach erosion in the area. The group held signs, handed out literature and phone numbers of local elected officials and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers who perform beach replenishment work to the shores of the Rockaway beaches. The goal of the event was to raise awareness of the continuing erosion and unfinished 10-year study of the Rockaway peninsula which began in 2004. The study was meant to provide a long term solution for the erosion problems facing the beach.
