Historical Views of the Rockaways

Two Views of Breezy Point, 1919
Commentary by Emil Lucev

Many picture postcards of Rockaway Point, published by Point pioneer Howard Reid, featured two sorts of panoramic views. Mr. Reid seemed to have cornered the market on Point postcards, so to speak! He owned a large pavilion and the ferry dock at Reid Avenue, on the bayside of the Point, and had built at the Point in about 1900.

These two shots are taken on the bayside of the Point, and on the right in the bottom view, a line of bungalows on the beachside is observed. Can anyone at the Point identify any bungalow…and…the lonely tent shown in the bottom view?
