Dodging The Bullet

Dear Editor,

For years I’ve written to The Wave and to our politicians- about how the City, especially Parks, have made Rockaway vulnerable to serious storms. Irene was only a tropical storm when it passed over, and yet the sea reached as far as Newport Avenue. Parks’ bulldozing of the beach, year after year, certainly made it easier for the water to rush over into the streets.

Is the City going to keep spending your tax dollars to put your homes and lives in jeopardy? Are the residents going to finally wake up and put a stop to this? We need rock jetties and sand dunes, and demand that Parks stop destroying the beach, before the real hurricane hits.
