As part of a Department of Education community service initiative called “Service in Schools,” students, staff, and parents from P.S. 215 were hosted at Gracie Mansion at the end of the academic year in acknowledgment of their great participation in the city’s Penny Harvest. They had the opportunity to meet Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Chancellor Dennis Walcott at a barbecue thrown for the event. The pupils were Diamond Black, Lershaun Ferdinand, Nialah Morris, Khiara Richards, Fallone Tarte and Kiara Trujillo and they were accompanied by their parents and the school’s principal and math coach, Susan Hoffman and Lois Mann. Eighteen schools were invited to the festivities and P.S. 215 was the only elementary school in Queens to be so honored.
