Historical Views of the Rockaways

The Bayside at Breezy Point, Rockaway Point - 1918
From The Rockaway Museum Commentary by Emil Lucev, Curator Dedicated To The Memory Of Leon S. Locke

This week Historical Views goes to the Breezy Point section of Rockaway Point, to look at the bayside of the Point in 1918. On the left is Kennedy’s Casino and Restaurant, located on today’s Beach 210 Street and Bayview Walk, and has been there since the building was floated over from the west side of Coney Island in 1911, on a barge!

The camera was apparently set up on a sand spit to the west of Kennedy’s in order to get this long distance shot …at low water!

Behind Kennedy’s is Reid’s Dock at Reid Avenue, which appears as a glimpse with a glass at 4x.

With tongue in check, I believe the camera site today is Palmer Drive near Beach 219 Street!
