New York Novas Start Cross Country Season

On Saturday, August 20, NY Novas Rockaway team and Novas Jamaica team opened up this cross country season by conducting Family Day Fun Run at Roy Wilkins Park, Jamaica.

The races include 400- meter for 6 years old and under, 800-meter for 7- and 8-year-olds, 1200-meter for 9- and 10-year-olds, and 1- mile for 11 and up.

Novas Rockaway team, Justin Davis (4) and Ledgm Washington (6), lined up for their very first 400-meter run, “Ready, set, GO!” They completed the race without stopping with 1:52 (Washington) and 2:11 (Davis), and they both came home with a first place trophy cup. “It was so hard and I felt like stopping but I wanted to finish in first place, so I kept going,” said Washington with a big smile. Joel Johnson (7), competing in the 800-meter run, finished his race in third place with 4:58.

Areana Clark and Jemaine Davis brought home a fourth place medal by finishing the 1200-meter in 6:55. Emani Guy (11), Daikichi Washington (12), Ian Davis (Justin and Jamaine Davis’s dad) and Mitsuko Washington (Ledgm and Daikichi Washington’s mom) all ran in the one-mile race. The results are, Guy won the second place trophy by finishing the race in 11:03, Daikichi Washington completed his one-mile in first place with 6:12, Ian Davis came in second with 8:01, and Mitsuko Washington finished in first place with 7:02.
