Eugene Heym

Switchman New York Telephone Co.

Eugene Heym, a longtime Rockaway resident, died August 23.

Heym was born in Jamaica, Queens. He lived Broad Channel and the Rockaways for 50 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a switchman for the New York Telephone Company. Heym was a member of the St. Camillus Golden Age Club, Dayton Towers Men’s Club, Broad Channel Athletic Club and V.F.W.

Heym was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica.

He is survived by his son, Eugene Jr (Mary Lou); daughter, Julia Grant (Joseph); grandchildren, Eugene, Charles, Eric Heym, Joseph T. Grant III and Julie Anne Losasso; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. A funeral mass will take place Friday, August 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Camillus Church, Rockaway Park. Interment will follow at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
