Edward J. McGeary, 84, a former Rockaway resident, died August 23.
McGeary was born on April 14, 1927 in Rockaway Beach. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On September 20, 1947 he married his wife, Mary Elizabeth Carter. Together they raised eight children. Along with their children they also cared for numerous foster children. He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale, New Jersey.
McGeary was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth; brother,
Francis McGeary; and sisters, Josephine McGeary, Caroline McGeary, and Mary McGeary.
He is survived by his children, Edward (Barbara), Patrick (Sylvia), Kathy, Marybeth, Carolyn (James), Timothy (Ann McGeary), Michael (Janet) and Christopher (Kim); 16 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and his brother, Vincent.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kearns Funeral Home, Whitehouse, New Jersey. Visitation will take place Friday, August 26, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral mass will take place Saturday, August 27, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Annandale, New Jersey.
