Surf’s Up As Girls Event Comes To Rockaway
Ten girls from throughout New York City will surf the waves of Rockaway Beach to showcase their skills for the first time.
Up2Us and Stoked Mentoring will present a surfing event on Wednesday, August 31 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event will be held at Beach 67 Street.
The girls will benefit from surfing instruction, time on the waves, and the understanding that sports can be a turning point in their lives, physically and emotionally.
The goal of the surf event is to raise awareness of the impact of sports and coaches. The event also aims to raise $10,000 to support a trained surf coach at Stoked Mentoring through the Up2US Coach Across America program.
The surfing event is sponsored by Pret-a-Surf and NY Dermatology Group, both committed to community investment and to helping kids. It will take place prior to Quiksilver Pro New York, the first million dollar pro-surfing event which will take place in Long Beach from September 1-15.
