Par Tee Golf Tournament Set To Begin

By Peg Ansbro

The morning was looking rainy and gloomy!! This did not stop 21 ladies from playing golf at Riis Park!! And it did not stop Nancy Heffernan from getting low score for the day! Nancy finished with a 65. Peg Ansbro scored 69. In the seventies were: Marge Lentnek (72), Chris Brunner (73), Alice Mateos (74) and Barbara Caramelli (76). Two chip-ins belong to Maureen McGuire. Nancy Heffernan had a chip-in bird and Lorraine Pierson had a birdie! Nearest to the pin on #10 was Kate Hanratty with a distance of 11 feet, 11 inches. Chris Brunner was the winner on #18 with a score of 4’6’’! The winner of the Peggy Wheeler 50/50 was Carol Higgins who pulled her own ticket!!

Lorraine Pierson, our president, began the meeting by thanking Margaret Bambury for all her efforts in preparing the Catholic Club for our arrival and ordering and setting the tables with the bagels, etc. We appreciate all Margaret’s fine work !!!

REMINDERS: The Par Tee Tournament begins this Thursday, August 31 and continues to the next week, September 1.

It is the better-scoring game of the two! Play begins at 7:45 …pick your own foursome BUT have someone else record your score. If you can one of the two weeks that is acceptable … just come out and have fun!! And the other reminder concerns our Closing Luncheon! The co-chair ladies, Betty Weed, Carol Smyth and Nancy Heffernan, are looking for donations for the raffle. Please contact them with your gift. Checks should be made out to “Par Tee Golf”: $40 for members and $50 for non-members. If you are making up a table please limit the number to eight!!

There will be a memorial mass for Sheila Donahue on the morning of the luncheon, September 1, St. Genevieve’s in Roxbury at 9 a.m.!!
