Beach Palooza Comes To Rockaway August 27

By Daniel Solomon

People cool down after the race. People cool down after the race. On August 27, be on the lookout for legions of runners as Beach Palooza comes to Rockaway, bringing 1,200 people along with it. Beach Palooza, a roving competition held by the city’s Parks Department on beaches throughout New York, is scheduled to begin and end at Beach 108 Street and Shorefront Parkway. The event will include a fivekilometer race on the beach, which will be studded with obstacles like quicksand pits and sizzling coals.

Beach Palooza will kick off with a first wave of runners at 11 a.m. and a second wave a half-hour later. Afterward, there will be an awards ceremony for the top performers and a party that will have drinks and music.

Spectators are welcome to watch. For those wanting more information about the event or who would like to register for the contest, please call 312-623- 7501. Here are some photos from previous Beach Paloozas.
